VoIP Decision Upeld - No State Regulation
The FCC’s decision to except VoIP Providers from State telecommunicationns regulations was upheld by the U.S Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit Court. This is great news for VoIP Providers like Vonage, but a disappointment for those states wanting to gain control and taxation over VoIP based services.
In 2004, the FCC ruled that VoIP Providers should be treated like any other internet service provider. This decision ensures that any regulation would take place only at the federal level.
This affirmation will make it far simpler for VoIP Providers to comply with regulatory decisions rather than deal with 50 separate sets of rules.
