Pac-West Telecomm, Inc. Files for Chapter 11 Protection

I just noticed that Pac-West has voluntarily filed for Bankruptcy Protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

Pac-West is a provider of advanced communications services that enable traditional and next-generation providers, carriers, and service providers to efficiently design, deploy, and deliver integrated communication solutions.

In conjunction with the filing, Pac-West Funding Company LLC, an affiliate of Columbia Ventures Corp., an existing investor in the company, agreed to provide Pac-West up to $18.5 million in debtor-in-possession financing, subject to court approval.

This is not the first step that Pac-West has taken to restructure its business. In 2001, Pac-West laid off 200 workers to bring costs inline with their revenues. As a consultant, I have heard the complains from my customers about how Pac-West has had unexplained outages, increasingly slower response times and perhaps an increase in employee turnover. All of which has been a foreshadow to todays filing.
