Digium Names David Deaton Vice President of Engineering
Digium announced today the appointment of David Deaton as Vice President of Engineering.
Deaton brings 16 years of experience in the telecommunication and technology industries, including as CEO of Teracruz, a database acceleration and security provider. Deaton has also held high level engineering management positions at Nokia and Adtran.
Now that Mark Spencer has surrounded himself with a truly capable executive management team, l am confident that Digium Hardware and Asterisk will continue to make drastic improvements in the coming months.
As many in the Asterisk community know, I have been a very staunch supporter of Digium and Asterisk. However, lately I have been hearing and personally experiencing the lack of dedication and outright clue of those within Digium’s Tech support department.
While this trend is great for us outside Asterisk consultants, I feel that Digium is really missing the boat on properly supporting those forward looking companies that make the decision to deploy an Asterisk based solution. After all, us little fish really do not have the necessary marketing or executive clout to secure those large, lucrative contracts.
Now, there are many other players, including but certainly not limited to Fonality, that have dedicated serious resources to the further enhancement and the supporting of Asterisk. If Digium doesn’t make significant improvements in many ares of their business, they will continue to loose market share to these other players.
I hope these major changes at the top levels of Digium will cause a drastic change in their attitude toward those many people and small businesses who have graciously contributed to Asterisk, but have been been outright denied official business relationships with Digium.
Time will tell.
