ATAComm Ceases Operation
I just noticed that ATAComm and its parent company, Ataractic Corporation, has ceased operations.
Over the years, I have had many confrontations with ‘atacomm’ on the Asterisk IRC channel, although I have never met the actual person behind the IRC alias.
On numerous occasions ‘he’ would login to the Asterisk IRC channel and complain about Digium and/or Asterisk. Plus, this person would always find a way to plug the hardware they were ‘going to release’ before he was kicked or left upon threat of being banned.
<flame>So, I guess your fancy T1/E1/J1 DSP enabled hardware designed specifically to kill Digium won’t be coming out after all?</flame>
Good Riddance.
If anyone has outstanding orders from ATAComm please comment. I will gladly dedicate time to tracking down the responsible party(s) to recover any funds due without any sort commission or finders fee. This scumbag is not going to run away with your money….

I am trying to find an alternate, but the rates offered by Atacomm are very low as compared to other stores.
Does any one of a reliable supplier with comparable rates ?
Give Eric a call at The VoIP Connection - 800-990-6728. Tell him you used to be an ATAComm customer and would like a special deal - Tell’em Jeremy sent you.
Granted my relationship with The VoIP Connection is biased, but they will treat you right and give you the best deal they can.
Thank you for your help.
I have 3 RMAs that I sent Atacomm (they have the equipment), and they NEVER sent me the promised $1000 worth of refunds via check. I’ve tried to contact them the last month, and they never returned my repeated calls/emails. I’m so frusterated, as they now have the equipment THAT IS STILL OURS! What a joke.
Matt:
Send a certified letter with restricted delivery to:
Dan Guisinger
Ataractic Corporation
PO Box 1925
Maple Grove, MN 55311 US
USPS will make two attempts to contact them. If 15 days passes they will officially send your letter back to you. At that point you would have sufficient cause to submit a small claims action against ATAComm / Ataractic Corporation.
The ultimate goal is to be listed as a debtor in any bankruptcy proceedings that occur, which seems inevitable at this point.
As assets are liquidated debits will be repaid or you will be listed as a debtor on the responsible parties personal credit report.
Another, potentially faster option, would be to sell your ‘note’ to a collection agency at some discount to get money right now. I will privately recommend a couple companies, if you would like.
[Note I am not an attorney, so do not consider this to be legal advice.]
Hy just found this, I’m interested in how i can get back from them some money from a order that i did with them.
I did the order , they didn’t delivered it so i called them up and canceled the order , then they told me that i have to wait in order to get my money back, last time when i checked it on Friday 21 it said pending (i called on Wednesday 19th and asked them what is going on and they said that i have to wait ).
What is to be done :
a)Will i be listed as a debtor … or
b)Where do i have to file the complaint so i can get my money back.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
CT: If you ordered with a credit card you could submit a chargeback. If they already cashed your check, then you have to otherwise go after them to recover your money.
Hopefully you paid with a credit card, that way all you need to do is submit a chargeback stating that you never received the items you purchased.
No i did it with a debit card , i know it was bad , however like i just said last time when i looked at their web site it was saying pending.
I already filed a paper with my bank saying that i did a purchase from them and that they didn’t send me that products, the paper was filed on Thursday, i kind of felt this coming.
So what is it to be done
Thanks for the help Jeremy - we will give those routes a try. What a mess, and it’s sad how many people will probably be affected financially by this…
[…] ATAComm Ceases Operation […]
I placed an order with them on Sept. 11th, 2007. They charged my debit card $473.70 on Sept. 13th, 2007. I started calling Sept. 18th, 2007 wondering what was going on and then I go to their website today and see that they are out of business. I spoke to my bank about the transaction already, but they aren’t very hopeful that I’ll get my money back… Now to find someone who can fulfill the order I really needed to have here last week.
Rob: Provided your Debt Card has a Visa/MC logo on it, you should be able to submit a chargeback for non-receipt of your order.
I am unsure of the process if you have a bank specific debt card (without a visa/mc logo on it)
Give Eric a call at 800-990-6728. He can assist you with getting the hardware you need.
I had good feelings about Atacomm… They are from my home state of MN.
Had a GXP-2000 that needed to be RMA’d after the ethernet connection stopped staying linked. Talked with a tech at Atacomm who said the issue should be covered and issued an RMA. Sent it in at my cost.
After a week or so I sent an e-mail to check on the status. Received a reply from “Reed Anderson” that said “the warranty has been voided” with no further information.
I responded looking for more information. Was told that a “warranty sticker” had been removed. (Not by me). Went back and forth trying to get it taken care of internally before sending a complaint to the BBB. They went back to the same “Customer has removed a sticker” excuse.
Now they still have my (broken) phone, and aren’t answering their phones/e-mails. I’ll personally drive over to their office/warehouse/whatever to pick this unit up, as I’d like to continue pursuing the warranty issues directly with Grandstream. At the least I’d rather offload the phone on eBay for $10 then end up having Atacomm using my property to settle their bankruptcy.
Any advice?
Another Rob: I knew ATAComm would not last, but I kept my opinion to myself (mostly
If you can re-acquire your hardware, I recommend you contact The VoIP Connection (is there an echo in here?)
…As long as there isn’t any obvious signs of the device being opened/tampered with, I’m sure you won’t have any trouble getting a replacement unit.
I ordered 35 Grandstream gxp 2000’s from them on Sept 7th. I never heard anything back from them for weeks. I tried calling and emailing and never heard from them at all. I even tracked the order and saw no movement on the order from their facility. I ended up ordering the phones from somewhere and got them the next week. My problem is the phones from ATAcomm just showed up. I don’t need them any more so what are my options since I can’t send them back?
Ok just maybe I can help somebody. my bank helped me getting the money back even if it was debit card. The bank just refunded me, so i guess next time I’m going to do a better research on the companies from which I buy from.
Hope you all have the same luck I had.
Thank you JJ.
CT: Great News! Thank you for the update.
We as a company have been dealing with Atacomm for two years and have been left with unpaid invoices. They have been purchasing our software. Thanks for the information on where to send a certified letter. We were wondering what our next step could be after the debt collection agency is no longer working with them.
